What is the proper length for meta tags?
Title Tag:
We recommend that you always include a Title tag for each Web page. We suggest that you focus on two to three keywords or keyword phrases using at most 75 characters including spaces.
Keywords Tag:
We recommend that you always include a Keywords tag for each Web page. We suggest that you include the same keywords or keyword phrases that you used in the Title tag, before any additional keywords. We would not advise exceeding 175 characters for the tag. (Note: This meta tag is mostly used by the smaller search engines and primarily ignored by Google, Yahoo and Bing.)
Description Tag:
We recommend that you always include a Description tag for each Web page. We suggest that you include the same keywords or keyword phrases that you used in the Title tag and the beginning of the Keywords tag. This tag should be in human readable format and have proper sentence structure and punctuation. This tag will often appear as the description of your Web site when displayed in the search results, therefore we suggest making this tag enticing to promote better clickthrough rates.
